MMI Preparatory School junior Claire Sheen earned an award in the Hazleton Art League’s youth competition.

Sheen, the daughter of Kwangsup and Chaeyun Sheen of Mountaintop, participated in the Hazleton Art Youth Expo 4 (AYE 4), where her drawing, “The Symplegades,” received the Realistically Rendered Award, one of six awards given during the expo. She received a $200 prize with her award.

Art Youth Expo provides a means for

young artists (ages 13 to 30) to create paintings, photographs, sculpture and other works. The artwork was displayed at businesses in downtown Hazleton during a weekend art walk that featured performances by more than 30 groups, soloists and street performers.

Lisa Ferry is Sheen’s art instructor at MMI.
