Summer Reading Programs Set At Kirby Library

Summer Reading programs are planned at the Kirby Library.

Fizz Boom Read-The Kirby Library proudly presents its summer reading program, Fizz Boom Read, for 2014. Sign-ups begin Tues., June 17. Children and parents who visit the library will receive their Time Logs, plastic book bags, and Reading Pledges. After reading (or being read to) for one hour, children may choose a prize from our treasure chest! Optional contests and activities will also be available as a chance to win additional prizes.

Join the library on Tues., June 17 at 6 p. m. for its special opening program: Awesome Automobiles! Children of all ages will enjoy seeing a fire truck, ambulance, police car, and construction vehicles. Also during sign-up week, the library will have a Game Day on Thurs., June 19 at 2 p. m. Board games and video games will be available for families to play together!

Other June programs to look out for include a Pajama Storytime and Stuffed Animal Sleepover, a storytime for ages 2 to 4, making ice cream for grades K-5, and a lapsit for babies 0 to 23 months.

Please be advised that special programs fill up very quickly and in order to secure a spot, children must be signed up very early in the summer reading program. The sign-up dates are split in three intervals to offer a fair chance for all patrons who would like to participate. On June 17, patrons will be able to sign up for any programs scheduled between Tuesday, June 24 and Saturday, July 12. The program will end on Saturday, August 9 with a closing party that will feature face painting, balloon animals, games, and more!

Spark a Reaction-It’s time for Teen Summer Reading at the Kirby Library. Teens entering grades 6 –12 can register starting June 17th. Every year, we challenge students to read outside of school and reward you for doing what you already love to do: read!

Read books and get prizes! Get a ticket for every 300 pages you read and cash in your tickets for a variety of prizes. You can read anything, just keep track of your pages. You can also fill out optional book reviews for an extra raffle prize.

Teens will meet at the library every Wed. at 2pm, starting on June 17th, and we’ll make something, read something, and/or watch something together. Weekly themes include steampunk, banned books, and groundbreaking authors. There are other optional programs throughout the summer like free Yoga at 10am on June 26th and July 3rd, 10th, and 17th, an art contest, and our final party / open mic night on Aug. 6th at 6pm. Please note teens can choose to participate in the reading challenge and/or our weekly programs.

Literary Elements-If you’re 18 and over, join us for our first summer reading program just for adults! Submit a book evaluation for each book read to be eligible for prizes. You can also complete the optional tic tac toe challenge for a chance to win an additional prize. Closing celebration for participants is August 14. Sign-ups begin June 17th.
