This month two programs sponsored by the White Haven Area Community Library through a grant from the D&L Trail Alliance will offer an opportunity for young and old to explore the natural and recreational aspects of the Lehigh Gorge section of the Trail.
On Saturday, June 21, a Children’s Nature Scavenger Hunt will take place at 11:00 a. m., led by Leslie McDermott, library volunteer and board member. Children age 5-12 are invited to meet at the Engine House in sturdy shoes for a short walk along the Lehigh Gorge in search of sights, sounds, and artifacts of nature and local history. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Following the walk, all will return to the library to display the results of their “hunt” and enjoy a snack. Prizes will be awarded to participants.
On Saturday, June 28, Robin Golden, horticulturist and library volunteer and board member, will lead a Wildflower and Edible Plants Walk along the Lehigh Gorge at 11:00 a. m. Meet at the Engine House in sturdy shoes for this exploration of June’s natural beauty and bounty on this approximately one-hour walk. Bottled water or juice will be provided to adults and teens who participate.
Both events will begin and end at the Engine House, 99 Towanda Street in White Haven. All are welcome. For more information on this and other programs, visit the library during open hours or visit the website at whitehavenlibrary.com.
