MMI ANNOUNCES PIÑATA CONTEST WINNERS-Julia Snyder captured first place in MMI Preparatory School’s annual Spanish 2 Piñata contest. The contest continues the Spanish tradition of constructing papier-mâché figures for children’s celebrations, birthdays, holidays, and traditional festivals. Snyder, the daughter of Dr. Christopher and Dr. Jill Snyder of Sugarloaf, placed first for her rendition of the character Stitch from the Disney movie Lilo & Stitch. Caelyn McGran, daughter of John and Barbara McGran of Drums, finished second for her Oscar the Grouch piñata. Angelica Alday, daughter of Senen Alday and Milagros Azcueta-Alday of Mountaintop, was third for her octopus piñata. Under the leadership of Spanish instructor Dennis Clarke, MMI sophomore students spent several weeks designing, building, and decorating their piñatas.
