Charles Thomas Filbert, 77, Slocum Township, died Saturday afternoon, Dec. 5, 2015 at his home, surrounded by his family and friends. Born in Danville on Oct. 13, 1938, he was the son of the late Carl and Audrey Filbert.

He was raised and educated in Huntington Mills. He was employed by American Cigar, Berwick, and most recently Heinz, Bloomsburg, prior to retiring. Charlie was a member of Mount Zion United Church of Christ, Slocum, and Knapp Lodge 462 F&AM, Berwick.

He enjoyed spending time hunting and fishing, as well as metal detecting, where he would find many “treasures.”

Charlie will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Margaret L. “Peggy” (Roth) Filbert, of 31 years. He is also survived by a daughter, Connie Morgan, Texas; and many friends, including his caregivers, Lisa, Sherre and Dakota Briggs, John and Helen Williams and Gloria Balliet.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Audrey. A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a. m. Dec. 18 at Mount Zion United Church of Christ, 438 Lily Lake Road, Wapwallopen, with his pastor, the Rev. Bob Thomas, the Rev. Fran Fink and Richie Briggs officiating. Interment will take place privately in Bloomingdale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mount Zion United Church of Christ, 113 Forrest Drive, Wapwallopen, PA 18660. The family would like to thank Dr. Robert Engel and his staff, and those at Erwine Home Health and Hospice, who assisted in the care given to Charlie during his illness. Heller Funeral Home LLC, Nescopeck, is assisting his family with arrangements.
