Bernard D. Dorshefski (Stick), 66, Mountaintop, died unexpectedly on Friday, Dec. 18, 2015.

Born Jan. 31, 1949 in Plymouth, he was the son of the late Howard and Dolores Wascalus Parsons. Bernie was a graduate of Plymouth High School, Class of 1966, and was a member of St. Jude’s Church, Mountain Top.

He was a United States Navy veteran, serving during the Vietnam War. He was a member and board member of the American Legion, Shawnee Post 463, of Plymouth, a member of the Catholic War Veterans, Post 274, Ashley, and a member of the AMVETS Post 59, Breslau, Hanover Township.

Prior to his retirement, Bernie had been employed by the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections at Frackville, as a corrections officer. Prior to that, he had been employed by Owens Illinois, as a security guard and also a police officer for Plymouth Borough.

Bernie loved spending time with his grandchildren. Cooking was his passion, and he enjoyed sharing his foods with his family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, the former, Carol Bogdan, who passed away Sept. 5, 2006; and brother, Richard Wascalus.

Surviving are his sons, Bernard Dorshefski Jr. and his wife, Diane, Ashley; Brian Dorshefski and his wife, Tanya, Turners Station, Kentucky; grandchildren, Daniel, Lily and Lucy Dorshefski; sister, Marsha Stempien and her husband, Steve, Shickshinny; brother, George, Parsons and his wife, Lynn, of Cocoa Beach, Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, December 23 at 10:45 a. m. from S. J. Grontkowski Funeral Home, 530 W. Main St., Plymouth, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a. m. in St. Jude’s Church, Mountain Top. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Township.

Family and friends may call on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p. m.
