First Communion Parent MeetingsAt St. Jude’s

First Communion families are reminded that a parent meeting for Sunday CCD parents will be held on Sunday, January 24 at 10:10 a. m. in the school gym. The parent meeting for Monday CCD parents will be held on Monday, January 25 at 6:30 in the school library. St. Jude School First Communion parents may attend either meeting.

The First Penance retreat will be immediately following the parent meeting. At least one parent is to attend with the student. St. Jude School students are excused.

The First Penance Prayer Quiz for religious education second graders is before and after class on January 24 and 25. An e-mail will be sent to sign up for a time slot. Students should know the Act of Contrition and the Form of Penance from the original packet.

A Potluck Family Bingo Night will be held Saturday, January 30 from 6 p. m. until 8 p. m. in the school cafeteria. Families are invited to bring a dish to pass and win some great prizes. Please return registration form or contact Carrie at cgrandzolstjc@gmail.comto register.

The Office for Parish Life will offer training for new Extraordinary ministers of Communion on February 2, 9, and 16 from 6:30 pm. until 9 p. m. in the Diocesan Pastoral Center, 330 Wyoming Avenue in Scranton. Students in grades eight thru twelve will be knitting hats for children with cancer and for those who are homeless. They are asking for donations of yarn. Yarn can be dropped off for the month of January at the Parish Center or at the annex doors in church.

On June 5, the Most Rev. Joseph C. Bambera, D. D., J. C. L., Bishop of Scranton, will celebrate the Wedding Anniversary Mass at 2:30 PM in the Cathedral of Saint Peter, Scranton, for couples celebrating their 25th or 50th year of marriage in 2016. Couples will have the opportunity to renew their marriage vows. A reception will follow in the Diocesan Pastoral Center, where anniversary couples will be able to have their picture taken with the Bishop. Eligible couples should give their names and an April mailing address to the Parish Center (570-474-6315) by March 7.

Anyone who is planning on being a part of the Vacation Bible School team this summer and is 18 years of age and over, must have the following information in to Carrie in order to volunteer: Child Abuse Clearance, Criminal Background Check and (if living outside the state in the past ten years) Fingerprinting, as well as have completed VIRTUS training. If any parishioner or a loved one is hospitalized or homebound and he/ she would like a pastoral visit from the clergy, please notify the Parish Center.

Weekday Masses at St. Jude’s are Monday through Friday at 7 a. m. and Wednesday at 12:10 p. m. Weekday Masses at St. Mary’s are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday at 8 a. m. Saturday Vigil Masses are 4 p. m. at St. Jude’s and 5:30 p. m. at St. Mary’s. Sunday Masses are 7:30 a. m., 9 a. m., 10:30 a. m. and noon at St. Jude’s and 9 a. m. at St. Mary’s.
