St. Jude School To Celebrate Catholic Schools Week

Catholic Schools Week will be celebrated January 29 through February 4, 2016.

This year’s national theme is Catholic Schools -Communities of Faith, Academics, and Service. St. Jude’s students will enjoy a camping theme since they are all “Happy Campers” at St. Jude School.

In celebration of this theme, the following activities are scheduled:

Sunday, January 31 –School students will participate in the ministries at St. Jude’s, St. Mary’s, and St. Faustina’s Parishes. Open House will be held for current and prospective families from 1 p. m. until 3 p. m. Those attending will be eligible to win a tuition credit of $200. The Book Fair will be open in the school library. “Sundaes on Sunday” will be offered in the school cafeteria.

Monday, February 1 –Celebrating Community –The students will honor the construction workers who are building the new church and their bus/van drivers. Students will gather around “campfires” as older students read stories to the younger buddies by flashlight. Camping clothes may be worn.

Tuesday, February 2 –Celebrate Students –The entire student body will participate in relays and games, wear school spirit shirts and crazy socks, and enjoy the annual eighth grade volleyball challenge against the faculty and staff.

Wednesday, February 3 –Celebrate Our Nation and Our Volunteers –Students will be invited to wear red, white, and blue. Those who are scouts will be invited to wear their dress uniforms. The sign language club and the school choir will perform for the volunteers at a reception in the Day Room of the school. The volunteers, scouts, and altar servers will be acknowledged at the school Mass at 1:50 p. m. in the church. Sr. Bernadette, SCC will speak about religious vocations.

Thursday, February 4 –Celebrate Vocations –Parents are invited to speak in the classrooms about their chosen fields. Eucharistic Adoration will be held. Thank you cards from the students will be sent to the retired Sisters of Christian Charity at Holy Family Convent in Danville to thank them for their years of service and support of Catholic education.

Friday, February 5 –Celebrate Faculty and Staff -The faculty and staff will be honored at a brunch provided by the Parent Teacher Guild. It will be an early dismissal day.
