Crestwood Odyssey of the Mind sent 11 teams of over 70 students to put their creativity to the test at the Northeast Pennsylvania Odyssey of the Mind regional tournament on March 11, 2017 at Pocono Mountain West High School in Pocono Summit. Over 100 teams with approximately 700 local students from 40 area school districts went head to head.
Odyssey of the Mind is an international creative problem-solving program. Teams of up to seven students receive a “long-term” problem at the beginning of the school year that they must solve in an eight-minute performance within a small budget. This year’s long-term problems range from creating a robot that learns from others to imagining how time traveling could have inspired important works of art. Teams also receive a secret “spontaneous” problem the day of competition, which they must solve on the spot. First and second place teams move on to compete at the state competition in Moon Township, just outside of Pittsburgh, on April 1.
Six Crestwood Odyssey teams will be advancing to the state competition. Representing Crestwood High School and competing in Problem 3, It’s Time OMER are Abigail Reilley, Brooke Weiss, Carrie Kraynak, Isabelle Otero, Madison Weiss and Rachel McFarland.
