James L. Simpson
Vietnam War Veteran

James L. Simpson, 68, Mountain Top, died July 3, 2017, at Providence Place Senior Living Community in Drums.

Born in Bethlehem, he was a son of the late James and Gertrude Sides Simpson.

Jim was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served with the U. S. Army. Jim was a graduate of King’s College, Wilkes-Barre, and was a U. S. Postal Service worker, having retired from the Wilkes-Barre post office in 2009.

Jim was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by his brother, Thomas, earlier this year. Jim is survived by his wife, Mary Stine Simpson, with whom he would have celebrated 25 years of marriage on July 27. He is also survived by his sister, Judi Skiro and her husband, Anthony, Luzerne; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral arrangements were private.

McCune Funeral Home, Mountain Top, assisted the family. Jim’s family would like to offer a sincere thanks to the caring staff at Connections, Providence Place, the Celtic Hospice staff, and to the doctors and nurses at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center for the wonderful care and understanding they provided Jim this last year.
