The Crestwood field hockey team will play in the District 2 Class 2A Semifinals on Thursday, October 26 against a team that was unannounced a press time.
Crestwood lost 1-0 to perennial rival Wyoming Seminary in Mountaintop Wednesday, October 18 giving the winners the WVC Division 1 Championship. The teams ended regulation 0-0 and in the 6th minute of a 15-minute overtime, Seminary scored in seven-on-seven with a goal. The loss left Crestwood’s 10-game winning streak with a 10-4 season. Seminary is unbeaten in regular season with a 14-0 record.
Crestwood goalkeeper Eryn Venesky made 12 saves and teaming with back-row players Katie Karpinski, Emma Colo and Lauren Reidinger to shut down one of the state’s most explosive offenses. Coach Patsy Moratori said Venesky and the entire Lady Comet team had their strongest game of the year
Crestwood (10-4) finished runner up in the District 2 Class 2A tournament last season.
Earlier in the week Crestwood’s Girls Varsity Field Hockey beat Wyoming Area 2-0 on Monday October 16. Both teams were scoreless until Morghan Murphy scored the game’s first goal with 1:16 remaining and Chloe Greene added an insurance goal with 27 seconds to play. The Lady Comets used their late-rally to win their 10th consecutive game and a 10-3 season record. Crestwood goalie Venesky made seven saves and the Lady Comets staved off five penalty shots.
