CHS Gridders Close Season With Loss

Crestwood ended the 2017 football season last Friday evening with a 51-7 loss after being routed by Valley View in the District 2 Class 4A quarterfinal. The Comets closed out their season with a 6-5 record.

Valley View scored their first TD on the Cougars’ first possession in the opening quarter on a fake-punt play. The ball was snapped directly to Chandler Fuller who raced down the sideline for 34-yards. Sam Pittsman crossed the goal line from 2-yards out. The Cougars would score two more TDs in the first quarter: one on a blocked punt return by Nasir Smith and the second on a 37-yard touchdown run by Seth Vernon.

The second quarter brought even more of the same as Valley View found the end zone four more times. Smith scored on a 43-yard strike from Fuller, two scores by Vernon on runs of 70 and 33 yards, and a 25-yard scoring run by Mason Kordish.

The Comets got a reprieve from the scoring onslaught in the third quarter but the Cougars tallied two more points in the final stanza on a safety by Pat Redman/Johnny Shnipes.

Crestwood could only manage five total yards while Valley View racked up 371.

The win advanced Valley View into the district semi-final against host Coughlin.
