M. S. Kirby Library December Events

Check out the schedule of events to be held at the Marian Sutherland Kirby Library at 35 Kirby Ave., Mountaintop in December for children, teens, and adults! To register for any of the programs call 570-474-9313 or visit the library.

The library will be closed on for the Christmas holiday Saturday, December 23 & Tuesday, December 26 and will reopen on Wednesday, December 27. They will also be closed for the New Year on Saturday, December 30 & Tuesday, January 2, resuming normal hours on Wednesday, January 3. Children’s Programs

Lapsit Story Time — 0 to 23 months — Thursday, December 14 — 9:30am

Story Time — Ages 2 to 3.5 — Wednesday, December 13 — 11:00am

Cruise Into Kindergarten — Ages 3.5 to 5 — Friday, December 15 — 11:00am

Santa Slime — Grades 1-5 — Tuesday, December 19 — 6:30pm

Join us to make some Santa Slime to slow down from the holiday rush.

Family Story Time — All Ages — Wednesday, December 20 — 10:30am

We will gather together for some stories, a craft, and cookie snack.

Furry Tails — No Date for December — Check back for January

Is your child a shy or hesitant reader, or does your child just love to read? Angie visits the library at 6:30 pm on the fourth Wednesday of every month! Call or visit to sign your child up to read to this gentle, certified therapy dog!

Tween/Teen Programs

Tween Holiday Party & Book Club — Grades 5-8 — Tuesday, December 12 — 6:00pm

Join us for holiday snacks and to discuss our Book Club pick, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. We will also select our next book for Book Club and choose the next meeting date. We will do Harry Potter trivia and the winner will receive a prize.

Teen Holiday Party & Book Club — Grades 9-12 — Saturday, December 9 — 1:00pm

We will eat delicious holiday snacks, and discuss our December Book Club pick: Simon Vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda, and choose our next book and meeting date. We will do some rounds of holiday trivia and the winner will receive a prize.

Adult Programs

Color Me Calm — Wednesday, December 13 — 6:00pm

Come color your cares away while listening to relaxing music. Coloring pages & supplies will be provided or feel free to bring your own.

Kirby Book Club — Saturday, December 16 — 1:00pm

Join us in the Community Room for our monthly book club! This month we will be reading and discussing A Redbird Christmas by Fannie Flagg and exchanging Christmas Cookies. Feel free to bring a few of your own! Pick up a copy and register at the Circulation Desk.

Socrates Café — Wednesday, December 27 — 6:30pm

Conducted by Steve Wallace. Adults from all walks of life gather for conversation and intellectual interaction. The group meets the fourth Wednesday of the month in the Reading Room. Registration is not necessary just show up!

Basic Computer Classes

Are you, or is someone you know, struggling to learn the basics of computers? Join one of our free classes today by calling or visiting the library to sign up. Adults ages 18 & older may choose from two basic computer classes.

Beginner Computer Lessons: Every other Thursday from 2:00pm -3:00pm. One-on-one training of basic computer skills. Intended for people with no previous experience.

Second Level Computer Lessons: Every other Wednesday from 3:30pm -4:30pm. One-on-one training for email and web browsing. Great if you already know the basics!

Basic Facebook Class-Learn how to create a Facebook page. Classes offered every Friday, 2pm-3pm. Basic computer knowledge is necessary. Registration is required.
