Crestwood Sports Scan

The Crestwood boys basketball team defeated Pittston Area, 49-31, in a game played December 22.

Sean Murphy and Kevin Klusewtiz paced the Comets with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Camden Boris, Mike Palmiero and Ryan Petroski each added eight points in the win followed by Evan Knapp with four.

In wrestling, Crestwood lost to Lake-Lehman by a score of 43-27 on December 22. Winning their bouts for Crestwood were: at 132 Garrett Swank pinned Josh Bonomo in 0:44; at 170 Ron Grevera earned a 5-2 decision over Nick Zabroski; at 182 Ryan Black pinned Thomas Nalbone in 3:08; and at 220 Shane O’Rourke defeated Chuck Harry in 2:17.

Numerous Crestwood student-athletes were named to the list of 2017 Wyoming Valley Conference Coaches All-Stars.

In Division I girls soccer, Melissa Herrera, Vanessa Atie, Chyanne Cook and Katelyn Whetstone were named to the First Team; Samantha Brumagin, Megan Syniewski, and Courtney Dushanko were named to the Second Team; and Bella Termini, and Taylor Tomalinas received Honorable Mention.

In Division I boys soccer, Hubert Herrera, Max Gariano, Dylan Gesford and Thomas Roberts were named to the First team; and Sean Murphy and Payton Glynn were named to the Second. Herrera was also named All-State.

In WVC girls volleyball, Lady Comets Kristen Kania and Natasha Geisler received Honorable Mention.

Crestwood field hockey stand-out Katie Karpinski was named to the First Team All-Stars.

In golf, the Crestwood golf team finished sixth in the PIAA Class 3A Golf Championships on October 25 at the Heritage Hills Golf Resort and Conference Center in York. The Comets came in sixth out of the six teams competing with a score of 314.

Shane Angle finished 15th in the Championship on October 24. In this, his first state tournament, Angle, a senior, missed taking home a medal by one stroke. In the two-day tournament, he scored a combined 8-over par. Angle was one of only three golfers in the WVC to compete.
