Crestwood Sports Scan

In a Wyoming Valley Conference girls basketball game played January 2, Dallas captured a 51-42 victory over visiting Crestwood. The loss dropped the Lady Comets to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in the conference.

Crestwood led 26-21 at the half on the scoring of Julia Makowski and Sara Hopkins who for 20 of the team’s 26 points. At the end of the third quarter, Crestwood was up 34-32 after Makowski sand two soul shots.

Dallas bounced back a in the beginning of the fourth quarter. Dallas sealed the win from the foul line, making 14 of 18 with Hanna Johnson scoring on 10 of 12.

Hopkins was the leading scoring for the Lady Comets with 17 points, followed by Makowski with 13. Helena Jardine chipped in seven while Riley Magin tossed in three and Andrea Shipton, 2.

On January 6, lost one-point heartbreaker in a non-conference game to host Easton, 46-45.

Makowski scored a team-high 17 points for the lady Comets, followed by Hopkins with 13.

Helena Jarine chipped in eight points while Sarah Richards added five. Andrews tossed in two for Crestwood.


The Crestwood boys basketball team lost to Dallas, 57-40, on January 3.

Dallas led by 19 points at the end of the first quarter. The Comets came back strong in the second quarter, outscoring the Mountaineers 20-10. A strong third quarter by Dallas put the game out of reach for Crestwood.

Sean Murphy and Camden Boris lead the Comets in scoring with 11 points apiece. Evan Knapp and Mike Palmiero tossed in seven points each, followed by Ryan Petroski with four.

In a Wyoming Valley Conference boys basketball make-up game on January 8, Hazleton Area defeated Crestwood, 72-33.

Nine turnovers in the first quarter alone hurt the Comets as the Cougers took a lead that set the pace throughout the game. At halftime, the score was 36-14.

Boris led Crestwood with 11 points, followed by Petrosky with six; Chalk, five; Olenginski, four; and Palmiero three. Murphy and Knapp each tossed in two in the loss.
