CHS Boys, Girls Teams Capture Wins In Basketball

LADY COMETS TAKE OVER FIRST PLACE-The Crestwood Lady Comets posted a big 60-57 victory over Hazleton Saturday night to take over first place in Wyoming Valley Conference Basketball action. Julia Makowski led Crestwood is scoring with an astounding 25 points.

The Crestwood boys basketball team captured a 54-50 win over Wyoming Valley West on January 9.

Mike Palmiero and Ryan Petrosky led the Comets in scoring with 13 points each while Camden Boris chipped in 11 in the victory.

Also scoring for Crestwood were Sean Murphy with eight points, Evan Knapp, four, Adam Gegaris, three, and Frank Cassarella with two.

Gegaris, Boris and Palmiero each scored from beyond the arc to ward off the pesky Spartans.

Against Coughlin on January 12, Crestwood cruised to a 44-31 win.

Murphy was the high scorer for the Comets with 15 points, followed by Ryan Petroski and Boris who had nine points apiece. Palmiero added six points for the winners while Knapp chipped in with five.

Wyoming Valley West en route to a 52-36 win in a game played January 9.

Lady Comet Julia Makowski scored a game-high 24 points.

Helena Jardine tossed in six points while Sara Hopkins added five, Kristen Andrews, four, Bella Termini, three, and Andrea Shipton, two.

Crestwood defeated Hazleton Area last Saturday, 60-57, in an exciting home game.

Makowski led the Lady Comets with 25 points. Hopkins chipped in with nine points, while Termini and Richards each tossed in eight.

Also scoring for Crestwood were Magin with five, Shipton and Andrews had two points apiece, and Jardine, one.
