M. S. Kirby Library Announces February Calendar Of Events

Check out the schedule of events to be held at the Marian Sutherland Kirby Library at 35 Kirby Ave., Mountaintop in for children, teens, and adults! To register for any of the programs call 570-474-9313 or visit the library.

The library would like to remind everyone that they follow the inclement weather closing & delay schedule of the Crestwood School district. In the event of an early dismissal from school when the library is already open, the Library Director will make the decision as to whether the library will close early. The library does not follow closings and delays due to frigid weather. Closings & delays will be posted on the library’s Facebook page and website at www.kirbylib. org. You may also call the library to check it it is open at 570-474-9313.

Children’s Programs

Lapsit Story Time: 0 to 23 months, Thursdays, Feb. 1, 8, 15, 22 at 9:30am

Story Time: Ages 2 to 3.5, Feb. 7, 14, 21, 28 at 11 am

Cruise Into Kindergarten: Ages 3.5 to 5, Feb. 2 at 11 am

Fun With Fossils: Grades 2-5, Saturday, Feb. 3 from 11am-12pm

Join us for a fantastic fossil activity with special guests Dr. Matt Finkenbinder, engineering and Earth sciences professor at Wilkes University along with Wilkes students as they explore local fossils from environments in Northeastern PA from 400 million years ago. Children will create their own fossils, learn how they form and what scientists can learn from them. Registration is required with a limit of 10 children, no exceptions. Strictly an event for grades 2 through 5. Call the library or register in person.

ValenSLIME: Grades 1-6, Tuesday, February 6, 6 -7:15pm

Make Valentine slime with us using gule, contact solution, baking soda, food coloring and glitter! Your slime can be sparkly and red for Valentine’s if you’d like, or make your own special creation. This program is design for grades 1 through 6. Limit of 15 children. Please call or stop by the library to register.

Pajamas & Pancakes! All ages, Tuesday, February 13, 4:30-5:30pm

Hear the classic, If You Give A Pig A Pancake story and eat homemade pancakes for an early dinner. Come in your pajamas to be extra comfy. Accompanying adults are encouraged to wear pajamas as well! We will have syrup, butter, and popular pancake toppings. This is an all ages event so feel free to bring the whole family and celebrate International Pancake Day with us!

Annual Dr. Seuss Birthday Celebration — All ages — Tuesday, February 27 — 6:00-7:15pm

Join us for our annual celebration of Dr. Seuss’ birthday! This in an all ages event that will be fun for the whole family. As always, we will hear Dr. Seuss stories which will be chosen based on the ages of the children who sign up. We will have 3 stations, not including snacks, of course. Pre-registration is required by calling or stopping in the library.

Tween/Teen ProgramsTeen Book Club: Grades 9-12,

Tuesday, February 6 to 4:15pm We will discuss Lord of the Flies

by William Golding plus a scavenger hunt throughout the library. The first participant to complete the hunt will receive a prize. Call or stop by the library to register and find out how to get a copy of the book.

Basic Computer Classes Are you, or is someone you

know, struggling to learn the basics of computers? Join one of our free classes today by calling or visiting the library to sign up. Adults ages 18 & older may choose from two basic computer classes.

Beginner Computer Lessons: Every other Thursday from 2-3 pm. One-on-one training of basic computer skills. Intended for people with no previous experience.

Second Level Computer Lessons: Every other Wednesday from 3:30-4:30pm. One-on-one training for email and web browsing. Great if you already know the basics!

Basic Facebook Class

Learn how to create a Facebook page. Classes offered every Friday, 2pm-3pm. Basic computer knowledge is necessary. Registration is required.
