On and Off The Mountain-Stephanie Grubert

Valentine’s Day is one of our more colorful holidays and this week’s edition is a colorful celebration. I remember well how we wrote out Valentine cards to exchange with our classmates in elementary school. I thoughtfully picked through my dime store assortment to give each special friend just the right one. Nearly 60 years later I don’t send or receive many Valentines, but when one does find its way to me I get that happy glow from long ago once again. Happy Valentine’s Day to all our Mountaintop Eagle readers. It is the one holiday that we can all feel special. Whether you receive decadent chocolates, a shiny new bauble or enjoy a Valentine’s Day sweetheart dinner. Enjoy your day!

The Eagle is featuring several Mountaintop couples, who have been married 50 years or more for our special Valentine page. We reached out to our readers through Facebook asking them to send in a photo and a small write up about the special couples in their family and friend circles. Congratulations to those long together couples.

The Eagle publishes milestone anniversaries throughout the year, so if you or a loved one have a milestone anniversary coming up, please be sure to submit a photo and a little about the couple to us by emailing news@mteagle.com.Submissions can also be dropped off at the office. In addition to anniversaries, we also publish engagement and bridal announcements.

Lenten Season

Today is Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent with six weeks of prayer and fasting on the schedule for the faithful. During Lent be sure to try some delicious Pagach from one of our local pizzerias including III Guys which will have Pagach available today, February 14th and also every Friday during Lent. Pagach is a form of pizza that is made with potatoes and cheese, each local restaurant has it’s own variation of the traditional dish.

Easter falls on April 1 this year which is also April Fool’s Day. The Mountain Calendar is full of activities to enjoy from now until April. Keep a look out for upcoming Easter events. If your organization will be holding one, we encourage you to submit it for print in the community calendar. You can email your event to news@mteagle.com.

For the Valentine chocolate lovers there will be a decision about whether or not to enjoy a piece on one of the most solemn fasting and abstinence days of the Christian calendar. I will enjoy one or two little bits. I still have 39 more days of Lenten observance ahead of me. My favorites include truffles, Dove chocolate, and the dark chocolate Michael Mootz treats. I need just a tad to keep my

brain sharp.

Heart Month February is National

Heart Month and women were especially reminded earlier in the month with National Wear Red Day. The “Go Red for Women” campaign seeks to raise awareness for Heart disease and stroke among women, conditions that are the cause of 1 in 3 deaths among women each year. 80 percent of cardiac and stroke events may be prevented with education and action. Blood pressure and cholesterol levels are risk factors that your doctor can monitor in looking for signs of heart disease, stroke and other illnesses. When in doubt be

sure to check out your numbers.
