February 14, Ash Wednesday, is the first day of the Christian season of Lent this year. At Emmanuel, we will begin the observance of this special season with by gathering in the sanctuary at 7:00 pm for our Ash Wednesday service. This service will reflect on the sacrifice made by our Savior and will include the imposition of ashes. Just as the season of Advent prepares us for Christmas, so the season of Lent helps us to prepare for Easter. Everyone in our community is invited to attend this special service.
Lenten suppers will again be prepared prior to our services on the Wednesday evenings during Lent starting February 21. These light meals will be shared in the Fellowship Hall at 6:00 pm. We will then gather at 7 pm in the church to reflect on Jesus’ sacrifice and gift of life and our response to his act of redeeming love. A sheet is on the table in the narthex for those who will volunteer to prepare meals. Lenten meals and services are open to everyone and we welcome you to come and join us in these special meals and gather with us for worship. If you aren’t able to make the suppers, we still hope you will come to the services.
Sunday mornings at 9:30 am is Sunday School for ages 3 through 6th grade. We have a great program based on our Hands On Bibles. We’ll have fun making crafts, playing games, and solving puzzles which help us understand the stories in our Hands On Bibles. Come join us as we learn about God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit.
Teen Talk is for anyone in 7th grade and above. The group meets Sunday mornings at 9:30 am to talk about God and Jesus, how our lives are influenced by them and how we can be an influence to others around us. There are so many things that try to manipulate us away from God. Come to Teen Talk and find other teens who want to make their faith stronger.
Sunday worship service is at 10:30 am and is led by Pastor Lou Aita.
