William E. Lukashewski, 61, Hobbie, died peacefully on Thursday, March 1, 2018, surrounded by family at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville after a courageous fight with esophageal cancer.
Bill was born Oct. 29, 1956, in Wilkes-Barre, and was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Ceaser) Lukashewski. He graduated from Berwick High School in 1974. During that time, he met his high school sweetheart, Patricia (Novicki). They were married July 14, 1979, and happily shared 38 years of their lives together. They have two daughters, Amy, married to Jason Rooks, and Jillian. Bill worked for the Luzerne County Road and Bridge for 26 years, recently with Poppel Construction, and as a heavy machinery mechanic for various employers.
Bill was a jack of all trades and a master of them all. No matter what help family or friends needed, Bill was always ready with two able hands and baling twine. Bill grew up on his parents’ beef cow farm which he then took over after his father’s health declined. After a full day of work, sometimes exceeding 12+ hours, he was always in the fields or tending to the cows. He especially enjoyed hay season as the family, including “the boys,” would come together to help unload the wagons and then jump in the pool to cool off. The day was never too long for Bill, apparent by the constant smile he had on his face.
When Bill wasn’t on the farm, he was contributing to his second passion — wrestling. Bill participated in wrestling in all phases of his life which transitioned to refereeing elementary and middle school wrestling matches. This included refereeing for his own nephews’ matches.
Bill was a practical joker and the life of the party. He was known to be on the dance floor from the time the music started til the very last song, doing his classic dance moves which included the sprinkler, baling the hay, and changing the light bulb.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mary (Ceaser) Lukashewski, and mother-in-law, Dorothy (Henry) Novicki. Surviving are siblings: brother, Joseph Lukashewski and wife, Irene; sister, Maryann Smith; sister, Theresa and husband, Huey Hippenstiel; and sister, Helen Lukashewski; also sister-in-law, Sharon and husband, Lenny Kotarsky; sister-in-law, Dorothy and late husband, Randy Wark; sister-in-law, Judy and husband, Gregory Lehnowsky; sister-in-law, Tina and husband, Kirk Nagle; and brother-in-law, Hank Novicki and wife, Donna. Also surviving is his father-in-law, Henry Novicki. Bill had more family than we can list including nieces, nephews, grand-nieces/nephews, and cousins.
