Palm Sunday service on March 24 will include the celebration of the confirmation of their faith of four of our young men.
Joshua Cronce, Aaron Kleger, Brad Kotarsky and Hunter Rinehimer will be confirmed into the faith of the United Church of Christ. They have chosen to become full members of our denomination with the full rights, responsibilities and advantages of membership. They have already been active in various areas of church life, such as volunteering at church suppers, the 300 Club and other fundraisers, and participating in worship services as ushers and acolytes. Their studies have included the history, polity and theology of the United Church of Christ. They have gained knowledge in understanding the past and the events which formed our church, how our church is governed and what our church believes and its position on issues, which are especially important aspects for anyone considering joining a church. We welcome them into the church family and celebrate their decision to take this important step in their journey of faith.
Holy Week Services will begin with Palm Sunday on March 24. Come join the celebration as we welcome Jesus into our hearts as the crowds welcomed him into Jerusalem. We will celebrate the sacrament of Holy Communion as we recall his triumphal entry. On Thursday, March 28, our evening begins with supper at 6:00 pm prepared by Pastor Penny. After supper, we will gather for worship at 7:00 pm and recall the events of Maundy Thursday as Jesus established the sacrament of Holy Communion at the Last Supper. Pastor Penny will reenact his humble act of washing the feet of his disciples. Our Community Good Friday service will be held at Mountaintop Presbyterian Church at 12 noon on March 29. On March 31, our Easter Sunrise Service will be held at 6:30 am and our Regular Easter Service at 10:30 am. Our traditional Easter Breakfast will be served after Sunrise Service.
Correction to last week’s article. The Sunday School Easter Party will be held on Saturday, March 30 from 10 am to noon. Each child should bring a basket or bag for collecting eggs for the egg hunt. We will have a brunch with cereals, fruits and juices, and, of course, painted toast (lightly “paint” your bread with food dye colored milk, toast it, spread butter/ jelly/etc. on it, and eat –it’s fun and edible!). There will be games and some crafts, too.
On Sunday mornings, we start with Sunday School at 9 am for group time and then divide up for lessons, games and crafts. At our 10:30 am Worship Service on March 24, greeters will be Jim ad Lynne Stewart and our liturgist will be Jim Rinehimer.
On Wednesday evenings during Lent, we meet for a light supper at 6:00 pm. This is a great time to sit down with our church family and relax. After cleaning up, we gather in the Sanctuary at 7:00 pm for Evening Worship. If you can’t join us for supper, we hope you will still come worship our Lord and prepare for the praise of Palm Sunday, the sorrow of Holy Week and the joy of Easter. Whether or not you are a member of Emmanuel does not matter.
