PA Quilters To Sponsor ‘Learn To Sew Day’ With Girl ScoutsAt St. Paul’s

On Saturday, April 27th the Pennsylvania Quilters will be sponsoring a sewing workshop with Girl Scouts ranging in age from 9-13 at the St Paul Lutheran Church in Mountaintop. Members of the PA Quilters will be teaching participants to hand sew. Each girl will receive a kit with materials to make a 4-patch block which they can fashion into a pin cushion. Upon completion of the project the PA Quilters will present “Fun Badges” to each participating Girl Scout. Girls will also be able to view handmade quilts and wearables created by the PA Quilters.

“We believe our guild needs to do more to teach our craft to the young and this initiative is a start for us. We hope to make this an annual event serving the girls of Northeast Pennsylvania,” said member Deborah Tirico, a professional instructor and organizer of the event, “and hand sewing is something everyone can use throughout their life.”

St Paul’s Lutheran Church is donating the use of their parish hall and the PA Quilters will cover the costs of the kits and badges. Over100 girls are registered for the workshop.

Founded over 25 years ago the Pennsylvania Quilters meet the first Monday of every month at the John Heinz Rehabilitation Center in Wilkes-Barre. For more information about the Pennsylvania Quilters or to attend a meeting please call membership chair Shirl Stec at 570-675-4018.
