RICE ELEMENTARY ODYSSEY OF THE MIND TEAMS MOVE ON TO STATES-Rice Elementary was once again well represented at the local Odyssey of the Mind competition held on March 9th at Pocono Mountain School. Odyssey of the Mind is an annual world wide competition of students competing on teams from kindergarten through college age. The teams solve problems in a variety of areas. Competing in the Primary Division working on the Top Sea-Cret Discoveries problem were Emma Guydish, Mac Kline, Natalie Kline, Morgan Koons, Kaitlyn Leicht, Scott Lenio, and Sophia Rucco. This team competed on an experience building problem because all of its members are in 2nd grade or lower and therefore do not receive a placement. Competing in Division I Problem 1: Pet Project were Kira Fenwick, Evan Fey, Shannon Giffiths, Carter Laubach, Claire Lenio, Michael Nicotera, and Olivia Richards. The team placed third overall. Competing in Division I Problem 4: Tumble Wood were Brayden Fenwick, Sarah Jacobs, Noah Kendra, Grace Lawson, Ruth Mallisky, Bennett Yermal. The team place second at the regional level and are moving onto the state wide competition. Competing in Division I Problem 5: It’s How You Look at it were Caroline Barry, Avery Czapla, Angelina Chin, Ian Koons, Daniel Gomes, Johnny Olejnik, and Isabela Reluzco. The team placed 4th overall. Competing in Division II Problem 3: The Email Must Go Through were James Lanning, Rachel McFarland, Cameron O’Neill, Nicole Orlando, Jacob Wells, Brooke Weiss, and Madison Weiss. The team placed third overall. Competing in Division II Problem 5: It’s How You Look At It were 6th graders Daniel Whitman and Jessica Whitman, along with 7th graders Matt Brunetti, Nick Brunetti, and Kaitlyn Roberts. The team place First overall and will also be heading to the state level of competition which will be held on April 13th.
