King’s College baseball standout Chris Sweeney, a graduate of Crestwood High School, has been named an honorable mention selection for the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Division III “National Player of the Week” Award, marking the second time this season Sweeney received the honor. The first came on March 14.
A senior outfielder, Sweeney was recognized after leading the Monarchs to a three-game series sweep over Delaware Valley College the week of March 18. In a 12-5 win in the opener. Sweeney went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs, and two RBI. In the second game, a 18-5 King’s win, he was spectacular, going 4-for-5 with four RBI, including two home runs and two doubles. In the final game of the series, he went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI but walked intentionally three times, the last coming with a runner on in the 10th, allowing teammate Eric Boehm to deliver the game-winning single. On the week he batted .636 (7-11) with three doubles, two home runs, seven RBI, and a 1.454 slugging percentage.
For the season, Sweeney, a 2012 all-region selection, is hitting .545 (24-44) with four home runs, six doubles, two triples, 15 RBI and a 1.045 slugging percentage.
