Crestwood Sports Scan

The Crestwood boys lacrosse team recorded its first win in the District 2 quarterfinals against host Tunkhannock on May 16. The Comets advanced to the district semifinal with an 11-7 victory win over the Tigers. The semifinal was scheduled to be played on May 21.

Against Tunkhannock, Crestwood scored the first four goals in the game and led by 5-2 at the end of the half.

The Tigers came roaring back in the second half, scoring the next three goals to tie the score. At the end of the third quarter, the Comets were only up by one. Scoring was fast and furious in the final stanza with Crestwood sealing the win after putting up five goals to two for Tunkhannock.

Steve Roberts led Crestwood in scoring with five goals followed by Jay Popson with thee. Also adding goals in the Comets’ win were Brian Collins with two and Johnny Macri with one.

Bailey Bauman was outstanding in goal for Crestwood, stopping 20.

In the opening round of the District 2 Class AAA Baseball Tournament on May 17, Crestwood (4-11) faced off against host Tunkhannock (10-4).

Crestwood shutout their opponents by a score of 3-0 . The win was a stunning upset for the 13th seeded Crestwood to advance the Comets into the quarterfinals against Pittston Area on May 21.

Against 4th seeded Tunkhannock, Brian Markowski pitched a five-hit shutout for the win. Markowski struck out 10 and walked only 2. Offensively, Markowski had two hits and a RBI.

Drew Munisteri and Elliot Snyder each had two hits for the winners.

Crestwood lost to visiting Coughlin, 6-5, in a baseball game played May 13.

The Comets scoring effort was led by Anthony Caladie with three RBIs.

Murphy took the loss for Crestwood.

Davies recorded the first no-hitter of her career against visiting Pittston Area on May 13. Davies fanned eight and allowed only one walk in the 3-1 win.

The lady Comets offense was led by Meghan Waite with a RBI double. Rachel Ritz added two singles and drove in a run. Mel Snyder had a single in the win.

Crestwood dominated visiting Berwick on May 15, winning by a score of 5-0.

Snyder powered the lady Comets with a two-run home run. Ritz doubled and singled.

Davies threw a two-hit shutout, fanning six in the win.

Crestwood (6-8) was scheduled to take on Dallas (5-9) on Monday, May 20 in the District 2 Class AAA opening round.
