Wright Township Board Reports Independence Day Plans In Place

Plans  for  the  annual  Independence  Day  celebrations  are  well  in  hand,  it  was

 reported  at  the  supervisors’  June  10  meeting.

Chairman  Dan  Frascella  asked  Supervisor  Jerry  Uram  for  the  recreation

 committee  news.  Uram  advised  that  the  contract  has  been

 executed  with  Celebration  Fireworks,  Inc.  of  New  Smithville,  PA.

 The  low  bid  was  $4,900  for  the  fireworks  display,  which  is  scheduled  for

 Wednesday,  July  3rd.  A  parade  will  be  held  the  following  day  that  will

 end  at  the  Wright  Township  Municipal  Park.

In  other  recreation  news,  the  township’s

 summer  park  program  was  set  for  the  start  date  of  June  17.  Steve

 Waskie  was  approved  as  the  program  director.  Four  staff  members  from

 last  year  are  returning  and  one  new  member  has  been  hired.  Waskie  will  attend  the  committee  meetings  and  provide  updates.

Frascella  noted  that  a  letter  was  received  from  the  Crestwood  School  Board,

 “advising  that  the  Board  of

 Directors  approved  payment  to  Wright  Township  of  $15,000  for  repair  to  the  tennis  courts  at  the  township

 park  in  return  for  which  the

 district  will  have  use  of  the  tennis  court  for  a  ten  year  period  commencing  on  July  1.”  He  added  that

 the  district  will  be  permitted  to  review  the  bids  for  resurfacing  the  courts.

Based  on  advice  from  Solicitor  Michael

 R.  Kostelansky,  the  board  rescinded  a  motion  passed  in  May  to

 settle  a  Heart  and  Lung  Benefits  claim  from  Officer  Brian  Macko.  Atty.  Kostelansky  indicated  that  the

 recommendation  was  based  on  discussions  with  the  attorney  for  the  police.
