Comets Dominate Tigers

The Crestwood gridders powered their way to a fourth straight win with a 56-0 shutout of visiting Tunkhanock last Friday evening. The dominating performance puts Crestwood in a second place tie with Meyers in the Wyoming Valley Conference 3A standings.

The Comets lit up the scoreboard with eight touchdowns, four of which were scored by Frank Aigeldinger. who rushed for three and added another on an 18-yard pass play.

Crestwood started the scoring barrage in the opening quarter, beginning with an 18-yard TD run by quarterback Jay Popson. Five minutes later, Popson rushed for another score, this one on a 7-yard jaunt. Aigeldinger gave the Comets a 21-0 lead after scoring on a 18-yard pass from Popson.

Aigeldinger added another touchdown in the second quarter on a 6-yard run.

The first half ended with a comfortable 28-0 lead for the Crestwood.

Comet scoring when he chipped in with a touchdown in the third quarter on a 39-yard run. Aigeldinger scored his final two touchdowns of the game in the third on two runs: one from 18-yards out and the other ftom 53 yards.

Josh Kaminski capped off the Crestwood scoring show on a 4-yard run for the Comets’ final TD.

Crestwood kicker George Gendler was perfect on the day with eight successful point after attempts.

Crestwood amassed a total of 417 yards while holding Tunkhannock to 67.

Aigeldinger was the game’s top rusher with 149 yards on 14 carries. He also had two receptions for 35 yards. On the day, Popson rushed for 35 yards on six carries and completed seven passes for 117 yards. Kahalu ran for 53 yards on three carries and Lance Blass carried the ball four times for 40 yards.
