The Bleiler family is hosting the second
Celebration of Life Blood Drive with the American Red Cross in honor of their son, Paxton Nathaniel Bleiler.
Paxton was born at 32 weeks due
to a trauma and required multiple blood transfusions at birth to save his life.
“We are so blessed to say that he is doing wonderful and growing like a
weed at almost 2 years old. We are thankful to family, friends, and our community for hearing our story and taking
time out of their lives to donate blood. You never know how a blood donation
can save a life. We would be honored to have such a great turn out
at the blood drive this year as we did
last year,” says Heather Bleiler, Paxton’s mother.
Paxton was born 8 weeks premature and
required resuscitation at birth, was placed on a ventilator and given the
first of several blood transfusions. It
wasn’t until 4-5 hours later that he started to respond and the Bleilers became
hopeful that he would survive. When that happened, the team brought Paxton to see his mom for a few seconds before whisking him away to Moses Taylor where he would spend the next few weeks in Intensive Care
Paxton and Heather had suffered a
Fetomaternal Hemorrhage – a rare failure of a membrane in the placenta. When he stopped moving, it had been a
sign that Paxton was slowly losing his blood supply to Heather’s. When the
C-section was performed, Paxton was born with only 15 percent of his
blood supply and required blood transfusions for the first 3 days of his life.
The need for blood s great. Blood cannot be manufactured and one donation
can help save the lives of up to three people. Please consider coming
out to Wright Township Firehall on November 13, 2013 from 12:
00-6:00 pm to donate.
