Crestwood Gridders Win Seventh Straight Game

It was another game, another win for the Crestwood Comets on Saturday as the team captured a 28-7 victory over host Dallas. With their win streak now at seven, the Comets 7-1 record keeps them near the top of the Wyoming Valley Conference Division AA standings while the Mountaineers remain winless at 0-8.

The Dallas defense did a good job of keeping Crestwood in check during the first half but Comet Frank Aigeldinger managed to score on a 3-yard run with 8:43 left in the opening quarter. Despite a few Crestwood miscues, a fumble and an interception, the Comet defense kept the Mountaineers scoreless in the first two quarters.

In the second half, Crestwood’s offense opened up the game. In the third quarter, Comet quarterback Jay Popson completed a 54-yard pass to Connor Sheloski. From the Dallas 2-yard line, Popson scored to increase the Crestwood lead to 14-0.

In an eight-play drive, a second Popson to Sheloski pass completion resulted in Crestwood’s third TD to increase the lead to 21-0.

Dallas put their only points on the board in the final quarter on a 71-yard pass play from Matt Harrison to Justin Mucha with 7:19 remaining in the game, but it wasn’t enough to catch the streaking Comets.

On the day, Aigeldinger rushed for 133 yards and two touchdowns. So far this season, Aigeldinger has surpass the 1000-yard rushing mark with 1,121 yards.

Crestwood will take on Williamsport at home on Friday, October 25 at 7 pm.
