Songs, parties and programs are on the list of our Christmas preparations at Emmanuel. After worship on Sunday, December 8, we’ll be tuning up our voices to go caroling at the local nursing homes and for our homebound members. It’s such a pleasure to see the looks of joy on their faces when they hear those familiar songs. It’s wonderful when they join in and add to the fun. Bringing delight to others is such a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon, so come join us.
The Sunday School will hold its Christmas Party on Saturday, December 14, at 11:00 am. We will be wrapping gifts for the children who are served by the McKinney Clinic. The Sunday School is gathering new and gently used toys to bring Christmas cheer to children who may not have such a merry Christmas without our help. This is a great way to teach our young ones the importance of sharing and the happiness it brings to both the one who gives and the one who receives. We will also assemble fruit baskets for our homebound members. Each child is asked to bring a couple of pieces of fruit for the baskets. After all that hard work, we’ll enjoy a pizza party.
Also on December 14, we will practice for our Christmas program. This is dress rehearsal and we need everyone at the church at 12:30 pm. Our program will be presented on Sunday, December 15, during our worship service. A Shepherd’s Story describes the tale of the Nativity from the point of view of the shepherds. Imagine their amazement when they are chosen as the first people to be told about the birth of our Savior. Lowly, unimportant shepherds. But that night God picked them –not the priests, not the governor, not even King Herod. How like God to do the unexpected and lift up ordinary people for an extraordinary purpose. The shepherds were the first proclaimers of the birth of the Messiah and they told everyone they could. Now we are chosen to continue proclaiming the story of our Savior. Glory to God in the Highest and peace to all people. Christ is born!
On Sunday mornings, we start with Sunday School at 9:00 am for group time and then divide up for lessons, games and crafts. We then meet at 10:30 am for Worship Service. On December 8, our greeters will be Dave and Rosemary Myers and our liturgist will be Brooke Rinehimer. Come, join us for worship this Sunday. We welcome everyone into our Father’s house.
