Local Residents Inducted Into National Biological Honor Society At Wilkes

Ashley Legg of Mountain Top was inducted as a full member into the Theta Delta Chapter of the national Beta Beta Beta biological honor society during a recent induction ceremony. An additional 15 students were inducted as associate members of the society.

Legg is a junior biology major.

Kimberly Price, also of Mountain Top, was inducted as an associate member into the Theta Delta Chapter. An additional 15 students were inducted as full members into the society.

A junior biology/pre-med major., Price is the daughter of Leonard and Janet Price.

Hiral Patel of Mountain Top is an officer of the Theta Delta Chapter of the Beta Beta Beta national biological honor society at Wilkes University. Patel is president.

A senior biology major, Patel is the daughter of Chandrakant and Chetna Patel.

The biological honor society includes both full and associate members. Full members are junior and senior biology students who have completed at least 16 credits in biology with a 3.25 minimum GPA and have a 3.0 overall GPA. Associate members are sophomores and juniors who have completed fewer than 16 credits in biology with a minimum 3.25 GPA and have at least a 3.0 overall GPA.

Tri Beta was founded in 1922 at Oklahoma City University by Dr. Frank G. Brooks and his students. The idea of an honor society and professional society for biology students spread and by 1925 the society became a national organization. The Theta Delta Chapter was installed at Wilkes in 2001.
