St. Theresa’s Guild To Meet February 9At St. Mary’s

St. Mary’s of Dorrance is a welcoming church. The pastor of St. Mary’s is Reverend Joseph Evanko, and Reverend Gerald Shantillo, Assistant Pastor. The weekend Mass schedule is Saturday at 5:30 p. m. and Sunday at 9 a. m.

The following children received the Sacrament of First Reconciliation for the first time this weekend. Please congratulate them and offer words of encouragement as they prepare to celebrate the Sacrament of Holy Eucharist in May. Each candidate will be wearing a cross pin to Church and Religious Education classes until May.

They are: Lexa Gluc, Osten Grigas, Megan Laskoski, Aubrey Macri, Joshua Roman, Colton Rinehimer, Cheyenne Straub, Connor Smith, Luke Swerdon, and Ainsley Webby.

The Knights of Columbus will meet this Wednesday, February 5 at 7:30pm in the social hall. For information on becoming a member call Tony at 868-8401, or John at 379-3721.

The Knights of Columbus will have their annual Sweetheart Dance on Saturday, February 8 from 6-11 pm. Tickets are $17.50 per person. Please call Marc Mickowski for tickets or for more information 570-868-8566.

Baskets of Hope-Members of Girl Scout Troop 33320 are currently working on their Bronze Award, the highest honor in Girl Scouting. With the help of the community, they will be collecting household items to be placed in gift baskets. The baskets will then be gifted to the women of Ruth’s Place, an emergency housing shelter for homeless women in Luzerne County, upon successful attainment of their own housing. Items needed include brooms, laundry baskets, cleaning supplies, clothes hangers, etc. The collection will continue through April 2014.

The Most Reverend Joseph C. Bambera, D. D., J. C. L., Bishop of Scranton, invites couples celebrating their 25th or 50th year of marriage to participate in the Diocese of Scranton’s Wedding Anniversary Celebration on June 22, 2014 at 2:30 pm. Eligible couples should give their names and an April mailing address to their parish office by February 10, 2014. After Mass the Diocese will host a reception for the couples at Saint Mary’s Center, 320 Mifflin Ave, Scranton.

Lecture on the San Damiano Cross-Most of us appreciate the beauty of an icon but, do not enter into the profound message it speaks. This presentation will examine the icons wealth of rich teachings, the impact it had on Saint Francis, and the impact on Pope Francis today will be held Wed. February 5 at 6:30 pm at Saint Mary’s Church, and Tues., February 11, 6:30 pm at Saint Jude Cafeteria.
