St. Jude’s Social Action Committee Collecting Baby Items

The Social Action Committee is collecting Pack-N-Plays, baby swings, high chairs, bath tubs, gates, and clothes up to 2 years old for Pennsylvanians for Human Life. No other baby items can be accepted. Anyone who would like to donate one is asked to contact the Parish Center ext. 250 to arrange for pickup.

The icon is called The Christ of San Damiano because for ages it was hung in the little church of Assisi names San Damiano. The young St. Francis prayed there before this crucifix. Most people appreciate the beauty of an icon but do not enter into the profound message it speaks. This presentation will examine the icon’s wealth of rich teachings, the impact it had on St. Francis, and it’s influence on Pope Francis today. The presentations will be as follows: Wednesday, February 5 at 6:30 p. m. at St. Mary’s Church; Tuesday, Feb. 11 at 6: 30 p. m. at St. Jude ‘s Church.

Parishioners are invited to join the Social Action Committee at St. Vincent de Paul Soup Kitchen in Wilkes-Barre on Thurs., Feb. 6 from 9 a. m. until 1 p. m. Carpools leave from the Parish Center at 8:45 a. m. Call Jody or Artie at 570-710-0137.

His Excellency Most Rev. Joseph C. Bambera, and the Office for Parish Life wish to invite couples celebrating their 25th or 50th wedding anniversary in 2014, to a diocesan Wedding Anniversary Mass on Sunday, June 22 at 2:30 p. m. at St. Peter’s Cathedral followed by a reception. Any liturgical ministers who do not access their ministry dates online are asked to submit any “can’t serve” dates for the spring Liturgical Ministry Schedule (or changes to your Mass preferences or contact information) to David Baloga at the Parish Center by February 14.

If a marriage has become unloving and uncaring, or if a relationship has grown cold and distant, if there is little or no meaningful communication, or feelings of disappointment or despair, Retrouvaille can help. This program consists of a weekend and follow-up sessions. The next weekend scheduled is at Fatima Renewal Center from February 14-16. Holy Hour and Confessions are being held at St. Jude Church from 7:30 p. m. until 8:30 p. m. every Monday. Parishioners are invited to consider spending time with the Lord at Eucharistic Adoration.

Parishioners ages 21 and older are invited to save the date of Friday, April 25 for a Night at the Races in the school cafeteria. Doors will open at 6:30 p. m. Post time will be 7 p. m. Ladies are invited to wear their Derby hats.

Weekday Masses at St. Jude’s are Monday through Friday at 7 a. m. and Wednesday at 12:10 p. m. Weekday Masses at St. Mary’s are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday at 8 a. m. Saturday Vigil Masses are 4 p. m. at St. Jude’s and 5:30 p. m. at St. Mary’s. Sunday Masses are 7:30 a. m., 9 a. m., 10:30 a. m. and noon at St. Jude’s and 9 a. m. at St. Mary’s.
