St. Mary’s Religious Education Students Taking Candy Orders

St. Mary’s of Dorrance is a welcoming church. The pastor of St. Mary’s is Reverend Joseph Evanko, and Reverend Gerald Shantillo, Assistant Pastor. The weekend Mass schedule is Saturday at 5:30 p. m. and Sunday at 9 a. m.

Religious Education Students are selling Gertrude Hawk Candies. Booklets are in the back of the Church. Pre-paid orders are due by Sunday, March 9. Candy will be delivered the weekend of April 6.

Need prayers? St. Mary’s has a group of parishioners who have formed a prayer chain. (Actively praying for two years.) The group will pray religiously for you and your intentions. Altar & Rosary Society Communion Sunday is March 16 at 9 am. The next meeting is Monday, March 17 at 7 p. m. in the dining room. All ladies of the parish are invited. Questions: Michele 570.868.0168.

The Knights of Columbus will meet on Wednesday, March 5 in the social hall. The meeting will be held after 7pm. Mass. For information on becoming a member call Tony 868.8401, or John 379.3721.

The next meeting of St. Mary’s Community Outreach Team (Social Justice) is Wednesday, March 12 at 7pm in the meeting room. This group will meet permanently on the second Wednesday of the month. This team now incorporates the Crochet Group and the Rosary Makers. Rosaries will be made this same evening beginning at 6 pm. The Crochet Group will continue to meet on Sundays at 6 P. M. Weis Markets Gift cards are available in denominations of $25, $50, & $100. Use same as cash. Our parish receives 5% of all sales. Call the office to order your cards and pick them up after Mass.

Members of Girl Scout Troop 33320 are currently working on their Bronze Award. With the help of the community, they will be collecting household items to be placed in gift baskets. The baskets will then be gifted to the women of Ruth’s Place, an emergency housing shelter for homeless women in Luzerne County, upon successful attainment of their own housing. Items needed include brooms, laundry baskets, cleaning supplies, clothes hangers, etc. The collection will continue through April 2014.

SS Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church share an opportunity to venerate an image of the body of our Crucified Lord. A Vatican sanctioned replica of the Shroud of Turin will be on display from March 2-15. The replica is the exact size, shape, and color as the one kept in the royal chapel of the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist Church in Turin, Italy. Services and times are on sheets in the back of the Church, on our Facebook page, or call the parish office.

Next Wednesday, March 5, we begin our 40 days of Lent! Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of fast and abstinence. That means two small meals and no meat. Fridays during Lent are days of abstinence.

There will be Stations of the Cross on Fridays at 7 pm and Confession every Monday at Saint Jude. Check next week’s bulletin for times.
