Misericordia University has awarded tenure and promotion to three members of the faculty. Among those promoted were Annette M. Weiss, Ph. D., R. N., CNE, Expressway RN program director, was promoted to associate professor of nursing and tenured.
Dr. Weiss of Mountain Top, is a registered nurse and a certified nurse educator. She holds a Ph. D. in nursing from Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, Pa., where she also earned a Post Master’s Certificate in forensic nursing. She earned a Master of Science degree in nursing from the University of Hartford, West Hartford, Conn., and a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from The Pennsylvania State University, University Park.
She joined the Misericordia faculty as an adjunct professor in 2001 and was named assistant professor and Expressway RN program director for the RN to BSN program in 2006.
Dr. Weiss teaches a wide range of courses including undergraduate nursing research informatics for health care professionals, legal and ethical dilemmas in nursing, and application of professional nursing concepts.
She has published and presented on topics particular to the areas of incarcerated mothers, and online teaching and learning, including the projects “Creating a Caring Community in Online Nursing Education,” and “Perceived Learning of Online Nursing Students.” She is credited with developing the RN to BSN program to a completely online program so to provide flexibility for the working adult learner.
Dr. Weiss is an active volunteer for the Crestwood Middle School, the Rice Elementary Parent Teachers Association and the Wilkes-Barre YMCA, where she was named the 2013 Frank M. Henry Layperson of the Year for years of service and work as president of the swim team’s parent organization.
