Wright Twp. Awards Contracts For Phase II Park Expansion

At the November General Meeting of the Wright Township Board of Supervisors, Board Chairman Daniel N. Frascella, Sr., announced the awarding of the contracts for the Wright Township Park Phase II Expansion Project.
The contract for the general construction was awarded to Grand Prix Excavation of Tamaqua, in the amount of $528, 365. The contract for the electrical work was awarded to Champion Builders of Kingston, in the amount of $90, 175.
Frascella noted that Invitations to bid were advertised with accordance with the law, with sealed bids being due by 1:00 pm on October 26th. The bids were then forwarded to both the Township's Solicitor and Consulting Engineer for review. Frascella further noted that comparison information regarding the submitted bids will be available in the Office of the Board of Supervisors for the public to review.
In response to several questions regarding the source of the Project's funding, Frascella emphasized that no tax dollars will be used to fund the Park expansion. "Everything is covered by grant money," he stated. Frascella additionally thanked Joan K. Malkemes, Township Secretary and Right-To-Know Officer, for her efforts in completing the extensive paperwork involved with applying for these state and county grants.
The Fire Department reported that it has responded to 130 incidents in 2009, through the end of October. In recognition of its members attaining a 75% certification level, the Department held a "small dinner" that was a "great success," according to Fire Chief David Pettit's report. The Department has also applied for several grants. Additionally, the Department is expecting delivery of its recently purchased aerial device to occur "some time around the end of November."
Frascella reported that the Parks and Recreation Department held a Halloween Parade on the Wright
Township Park's soccer field, and was "very happy with the turnout." The Parks and Recreation Department made Halloween treat bags to distribute to the participants in that event.
The Police Department reported that it responded to 11 traffic accidents and issued 31 traffic citations for the month of October. Among other matters, the Department also investigated 9 thefts.
The Public Works Department reported that the Township's leaf collection project is currently underway; however, Township residents are also encouraged to take their leaves to the Mountain Top Area Council of Government's (MACOG) composite site. This compost site is located in the Crestwood Industrial Park off of Oak Hill Road, and is open on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm.
The Recycling Department noted that in October it processed 21, 120 pounds of paper, as well as 11 dumpster loads of other materials.
Township Solicitor Michael R. Kostelansky presented several Resolutions, which the Board of Supervisors voted to adopt. Resolution 702 involves an Agility Agreement between Wright Township and Penn Dot for road work. Resolution 703 adopts a Hazard Mitigation Plan for the Township.
Resolution 704, in accordance with Pennsylvania Second-Class Township Code, appointed an independent auditor for the Township to replace the formerly elected auditor position. The accounting firm was Kolvalchik, Kollar & Company, LLC, was appointed as the Township's independent auditor for 2009, with fees approved in the amount of $3,630.
Resolution 705 involves the NEPA Traffic Signals Grant, in which grant money from state agencies will be used towards installing more energyefficient lighting at Township traffic signals.
