Nuangola Council announced that both the chairman and solicitor of the Nuangola Sewer Authority resigned.
Under reports at the December meeting, Council President Regina Plodwick advised that Authority Solicitor Charles McCormick verbally resigned during the last meeting. In addition, Authority Chair Charles Shea stated his intention to not seek another term and turned over a box of Sewer Authority records.
By vote, Council agreed to write to Authority members regarding the resignations and also to inquire as to the status of the eminent domain proceedings against Rice Township residents objecting to the sewer route.
A letter will also be sent to Atty. McCormick seeking verification of his resignation.
Finding a new solicitor will be difficult Plodwick surmised, “They don’t have any money, they can’t pay their solicitor and they can’t pay engineering fees.”
Plodwick asked her colleagues for permission to seek letters of support for use in securing grants funds to help finance an amendment to the Act 537 Plan.
Grant funding for updates of the borough’s restrooms and parking lot will also be sought.
These grants, if successful, will help Council offset mounting sewer plan costs, she noted.
In a hopeful move, Council voted to approve the 2010 budget which keeps taxes at the same rate as 2009. The vote enacted a 0.44 mill rate for property taxes.
In other business, the zoning officer issued a permit for a shoreline stonewall, which had been the subject of a previous variance hearing, and a permit was issued for an addition to The Grove building on Lake Avenue.
A complaint from the road department prompted Street Committee Chair Steve Hudack to remind residents to keep vehicles as far off the narrow roads as possible to aide in snow removal.
