11/15/2013 12:44:00 PM Reader Wants Rice Government Changes
To the Editor: At the recent Rice Township meeting, an individual spoke during the time the meeting was open for public comments making some good points, regarding cooperation and less bickering on the board. What he failed to mention was that the supervisors and all the Township employees are to work for the citizens of Rice Township. Employees report to the supervisors. They are paid by the citizens of Rice Township, and their first duty is to look out for the best interest of the citizens. The speaker also said he hoped that the new board would not fire people. The majority of citizens spoke out in the recent election, indicating they did not want Don Armstrong involved in any part of working for the township. Mr. Armstrong should be replaced with a competent person who has the interest of all the citizens of the township as a priority. Attorney Higgs should also be replaced by a competent attorney, who will look out for the best interests of the Township, not some group that has controlled the Township in the last years. All you need to do is read the agreement with Wright Township Fire Department that Attorney Higgs stated he drafted to see that he was not looking out for the Rice Township citizens. It was also stated that Ms. Grubert should tone down her comments on the actions of the township supervisors. All we have to do is look at the mess the present Federal Government is in, where the present administration attacked anyone who questioned their motives or policies. Ms. Grubert had two sections in the paper, one that detailed exactly what went on at the township meeting and an opinion column where she expressed her own personal opinion. That is what free speech is about and everyone should be able to express their opinion without fear of being maligned by the government body the individual disagrees with. Rice Township is lucky to have good people in the police and road departments, my contact with any individual in these departments has been a pleasant experience and I believe they all are looking out for ALL the citizens in the township. I give them credit for sticking it out during the last few years. I can just imagine what it was like to work for the supervisors in charge, it could not have been a pleasant experience. Thank you members of the police and road department for your good work!
